Every few years, the planets align and Hollywood must produce a new period drama starring Keira Knightley. In the trailer for Colette, Knightley plays the title character, a woman resisting societal norms while experiencing the thrill of forbidden romance.
So, all her movies.
Directed by Wash Westmoreland, Colette is based on a true story. She marries Willy (Dominic West), a successful writer, and begins writing for him. According to a summary sent by Bleecker Street, “Colette’s fight over creative ownership and gender roles drives her to overcome societal constraints, revolutionizing literature, fashion and sexual expression.”
Also, she’s French, so naturally everyone in the film is British.
Colette releases Sept. 21.
